A cali ‘whiting’….

maybe we can start calling them Corbinas here?

I'm going to say no to that....we don't need a fourth name for that fish here in the mid-atlantic!:D

Not nearly as big as stripers, corbinas are fun to catch and are a target surf species in Southern California.  My son caught our first this year on a soft-shell sand crab.

First 2022 Corbina.jpg

Surfed fished Torrey Pines beach in San Diego last summer.  Tons of fun with Shovelnose Guitar fish, Spot Fin and everyone is after Halibut.  I took my mom and she had a blast. And yes, I like the name Corbina.

That's a nice pic....remember we had 9 fish that day.....

A few months ago an accident separated (completely) my shoulder tendons from the bone, ruptured bicep, and badly tore my lone remaining tendon. ....surgeon says just live with it but no more casting. After three months I can lift my camera for a few seconds but that's it. It was a good 25 years though.

Bummer Allen, Hang in there and take it easy...it may get well enough for you to get back out there.  May just have to alter your casting style.

Nice fish! Hope they hang around for a while this year. Always good to get out there.

Saw this at my local beach.  The lifeguards said the driver wasn't feeling well, decided to drive home and passed out at the wheel.
