This was taken at Block Island back in Oct 2009. This was when I became aware of what a bass killer the parrot magnum bomber is. I bought it from Twin Maples tackle shop. After catching lots of keeper bass with it on the island, I figured it had to be as effective in NJ and the rest is history. You cracked the code. Who would think that color would be good at block island? Lol. Did you have a guide on the island or figure that out yourself.... BrianZ

Popular Post DelP
23 hours ago, DelP said: Rookie to the forum. 45 years old (or young). Fished as a kid in the Navesink for snappers and fluke. Started fishing again last fall after a freshwater trip in VA got me hooked...pun intended. Had my personal best today in terms of the number of stripers caught, not size (well, almost. see below.). Fished north Monmouth County this morning from 9am-12pm. No birds working. No bait visible. No other fisherman or boats as far as I could see north or south of me. Peak high tide to beginning of outgoing. 2-3 ft waves. Decent NW wind with some surface chop. Wasn't expecting much to happen, but my kids were in school, wife was working, so I was fishing no matter what. Hooked up to 10 stripers, officially landed 9 of them, and got bumped another 5 times. They ranged in size from 15-23". The one that came unhooked while I was pulling it up the beach looked like a keeper at about 30". As disappointing as that was, I was just psyched to catch some numbers again after a couple of goose egg outings this past weekend. I was using a 3/8 oz jighead with a 5" shad. Initially, I was using a moderate steady retrieve with a few twitches after every few reels. The shad was probably in the mid to upper water column. Didn't get anything for that 1/2 hour, but the water looked super fishy so I switched it up a bit. Once the lure hit the water I let it dive towards the bottom for a few seconds before I started a slow steady retrieve focusing on the lower water column. I then started exaggerated lifts of the lure getting it to quickly rise 3 ft or so, then let it drop again, reel a few feet and repeat. Boom! Hooked up right away. They continually hit it on the drop within 5-10 ft from shore. Great day that I can reflect on to get me through the inevitable goose eggs to come. Hoping tomorrow brings the same luck, with the addition of the 30+ incher of course. Good luck to all and Happy Turkey Day. Looking forward to gaining some fishing knowledge from the more experienced of you on here. Went back to the same spot this morning. Same time. Same conditions. First cast, lure hit the water about 25 yards out, flipped the bail and had just enough time to reel in the slack when I got slammed. Line burning and rod bent. Knew I had my pb on the line so I set the hook hard. Heart pounding. Got the gal to the shore break and had her ride a wave onto the beach. Grabbed the leader and started up the slope to dry sand. Another wave came up. Hook came out. Nooooo!! She started going back to sea. I threw caution to the wind and jumped on that fish like it was a bucking bronco. Straddled her between my legs. Wave recedes but I couldn’t get a good grip before another wave came up and slams us, pushing us up the slope. Now the water is up to my chest and starts receding back down the slope trying it’s best to bring me and my fish with it. I dug my boots into the sand and somehow held my ground. Finally was able to grab her lip and trudge up the beach. Winded, wet, but freakin’ pumped. 32 incher and pretty chunky. My pb by 9”. Fished for another hour and caught four more from 20-23”. UncleJohn
MoCo 6 PM to 11 PM I walked out on the jetty and it was a beautiful night with just enough cloud cover to obscure the moon. Moderate west wind, flat calm except for some long period 2 ft swells. I didn't see any bait in the water, but it was already dark. I went out to the tip because it was close to low tide. Snapped on Mullet Mag Darter and missed a hit on the first cast. Caught a 27 inch bass on 3rd cast. It was a sporadic bite through the tide. Ended up with 7 Stripers, 1 Keeper at 28. 1 at 27 inches and the rest between 20 and 25 inches adobo, NJTramcar, Sam3631 and 6 others 8

Dhirsch
Out front moco from about 10pm to 1am last night, top of the outgoing tide. Bathtub like conditions with just a hint of west wind and super calm surf. Moonlit sky with occasional cloud cover. The air temp seemed to stay around 40* till after midnight so it was pretty comfortable. Picked up a schoolie on a teaser and lost a better one in the wash. I could see some bait getting harassed on the surface in one area, but couldn't get them to respond to a popper.....fun night, happy I jumped off the skunk train. Happy thanksgiving to all! jjdbike, Sheisty, DeeMonee and 4 others

joefishnj21
Have a happy Thanksgiving fellas. Please be careful if fishing today from surf. Nasty little push yest with the 2 foot waves that were forming on the waters edge. Sneaky strong. Could lose your footing if not careful.
