weather people say “gusts up to 75”

Then we get gusts closer to 90.

Does 75 or 90 makes much difference?

While we have high winds, reported gusts to 50 mph, and rain in Boston, contractors working on the high rise next door, are outside with their heavy equipment tearing up and trucking away concrete foundations and sidewalks.

Absent some serious snowfall, it appears these guys are able to work under the most adverse weather conditions.

Yes very much so. In the formula for wind resistance the velocity (speed) is squared so that the difference is massive in terms of force exerted.

Usually its the opposite, lol. Ironic that these named tropical systems we get arent enough to blow a lawn chair over and yet some unnamed noreaster wreaks havoc.
