Very nice work RM, nice touch with the transom ''header''  Hard to tell, Is the trim a brick molding of some kind or 35/8 crown?  I've been thinking about doing this myself with 3/4 AC ply rips, primed and painted white.  Finish the rip edge with stained trim.  I built a corner shelf into a short wall and the angle kind of screws me up, not sure how to go about laying out the grid pattern.

i like the ceilings, but why didnt they put in taller windows next to the fireplace ?

I'm not sure.....sometimes on small lots with houses so close....we eliminate windows on that side  altogether for privacy....maybe that was the thinking behind raising the sill height...

Kind of like you would do with a bathroom window??

looks great.

My Wife might want this... but we have 11ft ceiling.

A section or two of pipe scaffolding is a big help for a job like that

Thanks , I was looking to do something similar in my living room and do have 9’ ceilings. As you know it’s all about proportion and balance. Glad to see it looks so good on 9 footers.

Very nice work. Well designed.

I have a whole thread here from 2007 where i went thru the whole process of doing this. The thread is still here, but the pictures have "mysteriously" disappeared :dismay:

That hurts my eyes, just reading about it.

I don't wanna see it.

I’ve seen a few houses done like that and people think they look nice including the finish guy who came up with this idea.
