finished up this deck and stairs... then covered the entire underside of the house with pvc sheets and trim.

I'd have to put a sleeved pipe grab rail all the way up those stairs to meet code here. Another $400 in materials . What kinda decking, and what fastening system did you use?

I love the look of this, and first thought of it back after Sandy when we were raising all of the homes/setting modulars, and putting that crap gypsum board underneath. Then tape and mud and paint ? Couple years later I was getting calls about holes and mold and such, critters getting in. I could never talk anyone into doing it, but most likely would have ben prohibited by codes for something. Here in the Garden State of oppression.

I'm also wondering how you treated the other side of that main girder where the pipe hangers come down.

Ben...not a girder....the last 12"o.c. joist fell right there...... then we add extra joists on the ends so we can picture frame the deck and have support for the end of the decking that buts into it......solid edge trex decking....screwed and plugged....thats a lot of screws and plugs. The pipe hangers on the other side of the beam were 2.5" away from the beam trim.....we slotted the half inch ceiling panel for the threaded rod.....then the batten strip....at 2 1/4" came right to the rod and covered the slots.
