650SS

20 posts in this topic

My old standby has been replaced with a new SpinfisherVI. I want to take my 650SS and bring it back to life. I see it is on the "no longer serviced" list. Is there a place I can get it refurbished or is it just not worth spending the money on it? It has given me around 3 decades of great service!

I am a Penn collector, you can get parts for them cheap, auction site and others,  easy to work on, keep it, and do it your self, you will appreciate it more as well. I like the older reels better than the new...

Nice, I have everyone of the first four generations, plus a lot of customs I have done as well. I have a SICK polished one almost done. They are tanks, I enjoy working on them and fishing them...They Display well too.

What a collection! And the rest of the room shows well too! By gas colors, I assume you are talking about the color shift paints.

How are you prepping the reels to be repainted? I have used rattle cans in the past for my plug making and refurbishing my outboard cowling. Not sure I need to figure out powder coating... Seems labor/equipment intensive?

Ok, ok, you guys have me convinced now. I will be searching down what ever parts I need and do a winter restoration project. Info on primers and finishes for the body would be great to know also!
