Will do.

Best part I had nothing to do with it!! I was a 1/2 mile away not seeing anything lol.

Well I had given Colin this tree for his ladder stand 3 years ago but that is all. He has seen several deer in it but no shots until Monday. Colin made it count.

Mossberg 500 20 ga with Breneke 2 3/4 slug.  Should have taken a picture of the hole in it's heart.

You should ask him for some tips!

Deer hunting is something I've never done, and probably never will.  I may get to try for Canadas sometime, but first I want to eat one and see if they taste nice.

Ehh, Canada's aren't my favorite eating. I enjoy dabblers though but those geese leave a lot to be desired.

I mention Canadas because my eyesight is poor - I might shoot the wrong duck. Canadas are hard to mistake for anything else ... what about brant?

They're a bird I associate with winter. So talkative, I like listening to them chatter at each other.

I used to live for deer hunting. If I wasn't working, fishing or training a dog, I was chasing deer.

Took my last deer about 15 years ago. By the time I dragged it from the woods, I knew it was my last deer.

Canadian geese. We've eaten a couple (young birds) grilled over charcoal that were delicious. All the rest were, not very good.   As old timers would say "they're so tough, you can't stick your fork in the gravy".

Everything is about how you prepare it. We tend to make a lot of jerky out of what geese we take, the meat is very lean so it doesn't require a ton of trimming. Kielbasa/sausage and in replace of beef are other options we like.

I brine all game birds for atleast a full 24 hours in a simple salt/water mixture, regardless of their eventual use.

Tough to shoot the “wrong” duck. Really the only duck we can’t shoot here is the harlequin. So unless you’re out shooting sea ducks, there’s virtually no chance you’ll shoot an illegal bird. Only thing you’d have to manage is limits. Mallards and black ducks are larger, so if you limit out on one of those, just don’t shoot any more big ducks. Hunt with someone who can ID them easily and you’ll be fine.

In terms of eating waterfowl from around here, teal and wood ducks are easily the best table fare and do very well by themselves. Mallards and Black ducks are really good if they’ve spent their time in fresh water.

For geese and divers, the best solution I’ve found has been to grind them, mix in some pork fat so it’s about 70/30, and make them into fairly heavily seasoned sausages. They’re stronger flavored birds, so they can take the seasoning. I’ve served my friends grilled duck sausages and they’ve always liked them. I’ve never done it myself, but I would assume they would make pretty good summer sausages on the smoker, but you’d need to get a fair amount of them to make it worth the time.

Jet sled is a game changer , even my buddy who had a hard time dragging wanted to drag his own to see, he said it was easy.

Rough green scored my buck last night, 152" before deductions, 143 7/8" after.  Will get the official after it comes back from the taxidermist

It wasn't dragging the deer out that bothered me. I always enjoyed it.

I just didn't care to hunt deer anymore.  My wife and I were getting tired of venison. Plus, the last couple deer didn't taste all that good.   So, I gave up deer hunting.

I miss it, a lot, esp muzzleloader.  But I only hunt what I intend to eat.
