If the our elected fools in DC can't get a budget passed or a continuing resolution the National parks will likely be closed.  Not sure of the exact timing, just something to consider.

It was closed during the mandatory lock down.

Effective March 28, 2020, Assateague Island National Seashore will be closed to all park visitors until further notice.

Seriously not happy about this. We arrive on CI on Saturday and will be there for 9 days. There really isn't much to do at CI if you can't get over to AI....

Does that side close? I really can't remember.  Maybe Maryland stays open? Anyone know for sure what will close and what will be accessible?

The last time that we had a gov. shutdown that coincided with our vacation, AIVA closed for the duration....we were bored stiff by the end of the week and I was driving my wife nuts....

It would be the National Park System, both MD and Virginia would be impacted.

Would national parks close if the government goes into shutdown?

Federal agencies have been told to prepare for the prospect of a shutdown if a new budget agreement cannot be found, with the very real possibility that national parks would be unable to remain open for visitors.

A similar situation arose in 2018 when a budget deadlock in Congress saw many public space services limited and the number of park personnel reduced, although the parks were then able to stay open. It would depend on the size of deficit in the federal budget and which agencies and organisations have their funding removed.
