Sandy Hook Dredge

Talking to the Ranger at the main gate yesterday and she said the dredge will be back Oct maybe into Nov.

Why do they schedule this for the fall run? Is this going to be every year now? What is NJ's obsession with dredging?

The dredging is needed because of the shifting sand they used in the beach replenishments. The best time to do it is in the fall.

The shifting sand was the excuse for destroying most of Monmouth county's jetties. As for October being the best month you are wrong. What do you base That on?  I have been in the marine construction industry for 30 years. That channel could be dredged any month of the year no problem. Please explain.

Technically speaking you are correct but you need to assume they don’t want to dredge during the summer when the beaches are loaded with people and boats traffic is high. So now they are left with three options. Spring, Fall or winter. Dredging in the freezing winter wouldn’t be their first choice. So now you are left with spring and fall.

The very last thing that gets factored in is “ The Fall Run “, if it gets thought of at all , which is highly doubtful . Marine construction , like all heavy construction can be somewhat seasonal , optimal times ( good weather ) increase productivity , which translates into profitability  Dredging , on the other hand , can be accomplished regardless of the weather ( to a point) , again , better weather , more production, more profit. Either way , the powers that be don’t give a rats ass about the fall run or any other . Lurp 66, Local 1556?

I was told 10/1 - 10/31 for dredging, with the possibility of it being extended to 11/30.

So they're dredging the sand we paid them to place on the beaches after it washed back near shore and as the Littoral Current sends it north....then they remove it and re-sell it again lining their pockets....what a buch of suckers we are.....$$$$$$$$.

They said “the false hook”.

Where that ends and begins is up to them I guess. I imagine the water quality is going to suck anywhere in the vicinity.
