Their is a thread on here somewhere in detail. but the short version is Rob Koelewyn who designed the Van Stall came out with the ZB Gen 1, Due to design similarities to the VS he had to change it a little so enter the Gen 2 ...

you have any idea how many 1st gens were made ball park

No idea, maybe around 300.

Thats just a guess based off my serial # which was one of the later Gen 1s. My Gen 1 Grey 22 was even lower # and had the ported reel foot like yours. I since sold that one to fund a bailed version.

Look up “ZeeBaas Real Reel Holy Grail” Ged put his knowledge in this post! No one can tell you how many were made bad record keeping or lost during the sale of the company. Ged is the guy to go to for sure!! It’s hunting season so he might be a little slow at getting back to you if you reach out to him. Nice score I have one in Ti Gray.
