I'm on a budget, and looking for a good inexpensive surf spinning reel that will last a while. Some of my options were a Penn wrath, Penn pursuit, Penn fierce, Penn battle, Daiwa BG, tsunami shield, tsunami guard, tsunami barrier, daiwa eliminator, okuma avenger, okuma ceymar, okuma stratus (sold at dick's sporting goods), what are your opinions??? Also, bass pro shops sells their own brand reels made by name brands. Thoughts??

I have been using a Proberos 5000 for about three years as a surf reel... All that I have done to the reel was wash it down after every use and them lubricate it a half dozen times and it operates smother now then when I fist started using it.. Best part it cost me about $30.00 ...

A Chinese Amazon reel???

Can't go wrong with a BG. I have 5000 and a 4000. Smooth reels.

I have a BG MQ and it leaks like a sieve.  It is smooth and powerful but I was disappointed in that.  After one use I had to pull it apart and service it. It did take a quick dunk but it’s supposed to be sealed, somewhat

I'm not sure as to what extent the MQBG are sealed. I don't believe that they are mag sealed like the saltist. A quick dunk shouldn't cause it to take on water though.  I used a BG5000 in the surf for a couple months last year. Dunked, dropped in sand, rinsed. Hasn't failed me yet.... On paper the BG MQ is a powerhouse. But price is way above the $100 BG.

Inexpensive and TRUE surf reel do not belong in the same sentence. A true surf reel are things like Zee Bass and Van Staal. The next best option would be the Shimano Spheros and Saragosa. Forget the BG,Wrath,Fierce, Pursuit,Battle, and probably all the others. Surf is a nasty enviroment..

Others have said the daiwa BG can take a beating.

Daiwa Strikeforece 4000

You can get them for around $15.

While ago, like 3 years, maybe, Dicks had them on  a sale for $9.99

I bought 6 of them and came back and bought another 4 of 2000.

One of the best investments I ever made.

They are good reels, they last with easy maintenance and if something goes wrong I just replace it with new one.

They can take a beating, occasional splash and drop on the wet sands.

I just wash them with fresh water after every use.

Bad day fishing is still much better than good day work.

It is a powerhouse but sadly after one outing the salt created a sort of rubbing sound and once cleaned it was good to go.  I still use it but not where it will get wet.   And yeah I overpaid.  Should have got a regular BG
