NJ walmart ammo/gun policy change?

Walmart in NJ last week.  camping/fishing section.  Looking for a bubbler.  Saw a box of winchester 308 on the shelf next to hammocks.   Not behind the license counter, not in a case.  Not even near the scopes or knives.

19 rounds remained.  1 missing, but I bought it in self checkout for $21, just because.  Age alert, nice lady over-rode.

So, how'd that happen?

Probably just an in-store screw up.  I know a dude that got an 870 Wingmaster some years ago at a Walmart for $200.  The counter jockey had mistakenly priced it at the 870 Express price, LOL.

I'm not from NJ, don't know the laws there. Why is this a problem?

No firearm sales.  No ammo sales.

Even the few remaining K Marts stopped in the early-mid 1990s.

GTFOOH !!!!!!

Seriously, how is that possible ?

i dont even own a 308 anymore, but I bought it on principle.   I was 90% expecting someone to step out and stop me, like it was a training video or sting.

I have no explanation for it.  ... and 19 rounds, not 20?  REally odd.

I'm surprised there was any ammo in the store at all.  Didn't all the New Jersey stores stop carrying firearms and ammo?

This.  But if you see the Super X label, you know it.

Like I said, no explanation.
