Great pic, and to think there are those who need a snag free deck to get that line out. Gather your milk crate gathered it perfectly,

That's an A&P shopping basket rigged with vertical pieces of heavy mono glued to the bottom to make the fly line behave. It was an early stripping basket that attached to the waist with a  bungee cord. Still have it, still works.

but I bet the tin boat requires way less maintaining

yes, until they self-destruct from corrosion and pounding.

Another 80s 14' Mirrocraft. This boat caught a ton of fly rod Stripers in the Thames river in the late 80s and early 90s. It's in MA now and still servicing.
