Bunker Everywhere

Went to the beach on the south shore this morning.  As I walked down I could see pools of bunker within casting range.  Something was exploding on them a little further out.  I caught a few bluefish and snagged a half dozen bunker.  On the last cast I snagged a bunker and instead of reeling it in figured I would see what was exploding on them.  Within 10 seconds my line was screaming out.  I tightened it as much as I could and it was still screaming out.  Assuming I was about to get spooled, I desperately heaved the pole up and the line snapped.  I'm really curious what I was hooked up on?  Tuna?  Dolphin?  Shark?  Wasn't a bluefish, I know that for sure.

sharky shark shark.

Same esact thing happened a few weeks ago in south jersey.  Nothing on the bunker, within casting distance, but all day nothing on them.  So we snagged and dropped a few, nothing.  reeling in the snagged bunker a shark took it halfway in, could see it in the breaker.   The fight lasted less than a second, didnt have steel leader.

Saw many small schools out in the sound Tuesday, same thing yesterday near the Tappan Zee on the river. They are living large with the summer lull in bass and bluefish.

Tis better to remain silent and thought the fool, than to speak and remove all doubt.

South Shore is loaded with sharks right now...

Too late for me.

Mother in law is gone; she went back home.

Bad day fishing is still much better than good day work.

Were you going to ask her to swim a mackerel bait out to the bar?

No

She is not that good of a swimmer.

It would be waste of the bait.

If you aren't fishing on the edge, you are probably blocking the channel.
