Saltist 6500 or 8000

I don’t mind sacrificing weight for capacity on a boat setup for tuna. The way I look at it is it’s not a surf casting setup, you’re not going to be hucking lures 100yds out for hours on end. And when you hook up to a 50-100lb tuna the reel weight is negligible.

Daiwa 6500 (in previous sizing system) is equivalent to Shimano 18000 (& Daiwa 18000 in current sizing).

Daiwa 8000 in old sizing is equivalent to Shimano 20000 or current Daiwa 20000. It's a big spinning reel.

If you were getting a boat spinning rod set up for sharks and some smaller tuna. Would you go with an 8000 or 6500 saltist?

same drag weight just alittle more capacity on the 8000. But also a heavier reel.

8000
