Tom, I have ridden on the beach. I wouldn't ride through salt water though. Just riding the beach is okay, but you just need to be diligent and somewhat anal about cleaning the bike as I'm sure you probably do with your Mongoose. Whether it's a hub motor or a mid drive, they are not sealed and I don't believe there are VS or ZB type motors existing. :laugh: I've taken the hub motor apart on my fat tire bike to perform maintenance such as cleaning the old grease out and re-greasing the gears. You could probably make the motor quite water resistant on your own with some RTV silicone sealant. Still taking a big chance. But if you were to do that and you got a few years out of a hub motor, a replacement is only about $250-$300. Hmmmmm.........:idea: You've got me thinking. :laugh:
