Hope this is in right category but do any of you'll have experience with the other abu's such as 8000 or 8600?

I have both of those reels but haven't messed with them much. Are they for casting or trolling? I like the little narrow 8000 but hadn't had much luck casting and don't see any way to mag due to its build.

8600 is not a good casting reel

Great boat and bridge reel, very strong, but pretty bad on the beach

The old 8,000-10,000 Abu's have brake blocks inside the left side plate.

Thank you dawg fish, yea when I saw those tiny brakes I thought man this thing should fly! WRONG!!! They sure are pretty though

They will fly, but they are a little big for most peoples hands. They were the reel of choice for the drum pro's in NC back in the day.

Bob Roch caught his world record 76lb'er with an Abu 8600 Striper Special back in the day. They don't hold up as well as the 700x series though.

I own a 1983 model 8000C.

Narrower but larger dia spooI  compared to a 7000C, but with dentical capacity.

They cast ok, but a 7000C will outcast a 8000C with one ball bearing tied behind its back

Its castable as is from the factiory.

I have pulled the brake blocks out of mine and static magged it. Thinking about it now in terms of my casting progress, it is probably over magged, not cast it in years.
