JerseyMike609
Looking for a reel for my 8’8 Elite,Thinking about the Shimano FL. Any recommendations??
Johnsmyname
Stradic FL 5000. I own that reel and the Airwave Elite 9.5, but I’ve got my Saragosa on the Airwave. In any event, the Stradic is great and would pair very well on that rod IMO. Edited June 19, 2021 by Johnsmyname Sp JerseyMike609

gcjeep14
Shimano 4000 fl would work well with the 8’8 air wave, also I’ve used 4000 with the 9’3 for that extra distance. I’m sure the 5000 would be a great match too. JerseyMike609
Johnsmyname
4k and 5k are the exact same size, just a slightly deeper spool on the latter.

How does it hold up to Saltwater fishing? I’m not gunna be dunking it but Sandy scaly hands and the normal stuff, curious if it has to be kept shinny or it’ll withstand a little beating? The tsunami airwave elite rod 8’8” 2M is an excellent rod, I just fished with it last week in RI, paired to a Shimano Stradic FL 5000. It’s a really nice reel and good pairing with TAE 8’8” rod. That’s said, I think the perfect combo reel to this particular surf rod would be a PENN Spinfisher Bail-less / BLS 4500. While I have the very light Shimano Stradic FL 5K and a Van Staal VR 50, there’s something about the ruggedness of the Penn Spinfisher VI 4500 when matched to this particular all-around surf Rod. It just seems right at home on this rod. IMHO. Gfemminella and JerseyMike609 2 RockfishOn!!

I wouldn’t have any issue with using it in the surf with occasional splashes and generally sandy environment, just rinse off with fresh water afterwards like anything else. ETA: Mine is on a 7.6 inshore rod I use when not wanting to break out the 9.5 for extra distance. It sees all kind of boat, rock and light beach duty. My larger rod has the Saragosa on it. That reel is a tank, but def bulkier. Between the 2 I slightly prefer the Stradic FL. It is lighter and a touch smoother and still durable/sealed enough. SeaZen 21
I had a Slammer 4500 on mine. Balanced and performed well. JerseyMike609

JerseyMike609
What about the Penn Z? I’ve been wanting one for a while but I think it’d be to heavy the this rod.

redfin
I love my boca 50 on mine. If I was buying new for a little more coin you can get the cabo 50. Truth be told the boca is very solid. I have several of them and not one issue for several seasons. If I was looking at Penn the conflict lc would be a strong contender as well.
