Unusual fishing rod

6 posts in this topic

Acquired this unusual fishing rod a while back. Don’t know much about it. It appears to be split bamboo and from what I understand the double eyes allow you to turn the rod over    to prevent it from getting a permanent bend. Anyone familiar with this type of rod?

I knew it wasn’t that old from the metal reel seat but had never seen one before and I’m pushing 60. Sooo that day gotta be pretty far back….lol

Fiberglass rods made their debut in 1945 ish (Shakespeare Wonderod). It can be hard to get a fisherman to change (some still won't use braid) so figure at least 5 years maybe a few more before Calcutta rods went the way of the dinosaur so at the least your rod is from the 1940's.

I'll bet if you took a picture of the guides and asked in the rod building forum they can narrow it down.

I have some hanging on my wall, but no I never used one. They are boat rods aren't they? Homey don't do boats.
