· #1 Posted June 11, 2021 So I recently just bought an ODM DNA Backbay 7'6" and only had it for a week and took it out this morning and found this?! Haven't even hooked up to anything big that would cause it to be under pressure for the epoxy to crack. I was shocked when I looked at it and saw that the epoxy had cracked all the way around the reel seat. I hope this is covered under their one year warranty? · #2 Posted June 11, 2021 Decent rod.. crappy that happened. Contact ODM with your pictures, explanation. I own a few of their rods, I like them. However I’ve never dealt with their warranty, I’m sure it’s nothing like that of say St Croix. I have two ODM rods a back bay and a 9 footer and both of them had this happen. One was so bad you can see well up underneath the real seat. It started just like the OP's photos but then it never stopped moving and the gap grew more and more. Here is the photos of mine where I had 3/16th of an inch and when it starting to cut my hand on casts that was the last straw. I drove it to their shop in NJ the following day as they wanted to see it and trust me they are well aware of this issue too. So this is NOT normal. I've never had and handle crack like this. Mine kept moving @OutKast I would return / warranty that. The team at ODM handled me perfectly but even after the repair my new replacement rods are showing cracks again. If or when things get bad again both rods are going in the trash. Fill the void with this stuff. Flex Coat epoxy. It never gets hard or brittle. Think they use to use it in the beginning and never had a problem with it. Great stuff. Looking at that gap go with the high build at first. Your going to have your rod rotating during the application until it cures. Apply additional coats until flush. I think cure time is about 8 hours. Check the directions I think additional coats should be applied while tacky before it's 100% cured. You can run tape from your reel seat nut down over the epoxy repair so you don't cut your hands...
