Cheap setup I'm absolutely blown away by! Fenwick HMG Inshore + Nexave

Well so far my setups consist of $200+ rods and $200 reels. But I listed to the guys here and got a Fenwick HMG Inshore in medium light and a cheap Shimano Nexave to throw on it for some fun inshore with ned rigs and some mirrolures.

Boy, this is one freaking SWEET combo!!!! I'm absolutely blown away by the quality to dollar of this setup and honestly...Has me wondering why I spent more money on other setups...

I've been seriously considering one of those Nexaves!

Do you have any negatives about it? What kind of fish do you target with it?

I have a Shimano Stradic ci4+ 3000 and a Shimano Stradic FL 5000.

The Stradic ci4+ is very light weight, I love that little reel. The Stradic FL is nice and pretty quiet. But both are $200 reels. For the money this Nexave is the perfect Goldilocks and this one will not be my last. For the money you cannot go wrong!

Hey I just picked up the 7MLF HMG Inshore.  What size was the Nexave you put on it?  I tried adding a Mitchell 308 on mine and the reel seat doesn't open enough to get the foot in.  Was the Nexave a pain to get in?

It's a 3000 series Nexave and honestly there is plenty of room for a larger reel. There are 2 adjusting threaded sections on the HMG Inshore, make sure you have it fully loosened.

Yes, both screws were loosened all the way back.  May need to take some measurements of feet on different reels, see if there's much difference.  Thanks.

How do you like that fenwick rod?

It's an outstanding rod for the money. Really makes you feel like a crook for only paying $100 for it. It has the quality and feel of rods double it's price.

Let me know if you want me to do any measurements on my rod or the reel base.

Thanks.  I have reels I can measure.  I just found it odd that the Mitchell wouldn't fit.  Not a large reel, similar to 2500-3000 sized reels.  And from looks the foot doesn't look to be any abnormal length.

Check out this guy's channel. He talks a lot about HMG’s. He even mentioned new handle on one wouldn’t fit all reels. I can’t find that particular episode but if you search his channel you can probably find.

I own several hmg's for freshwater. They are awesome. Was recently looking for a 7' 6" medium action. Unfortunately I couldn't find one anywhere and the fenwick site is useless. Hope they haven't discontinued them.
