The Lawnmower

8 year old Craftsman, been a great servant. Starts every spring with a few pulls, this year was a rougher start, but got it going last week and mowed the lawn. Been damp here, so Wifey wanted the lawn mowed today before company arrives, so jI just set out on that task. Hard start, but got her going. She rattled like the blade was unbalanced, but it wasn't, as I checked it before last weeks inaugural run. Got through about 175 Square feet of lawn and it sounded like I hit a rock. Well, no rocks were present on the lawn, and these hunks of metal shot out from under it. Obviously stopped it and checked the damage...looks like the metal part that holds the blade cracked in half and split. Time for a new one or try to fix it? What ya think?

It looks cast. Can’t be welded

Yeah, doesn't look like an easy repair. I can't see how that broken piece would come off in order to be replaced...there are no threads on it.

I still have my Craftsman push mower I bought in Michigan 17 years ago.  Still runs great. I bet you can find that part.

Blade adapter. It's a $15 part. I'm sure there is a YooToob video showing how to replace it.

Yup. Just watched a video and think I found the part. Just gotta confirm I got the right part in my cart.....thanks!

I wouldn't mind a new one. Do they make them with cup holders?  :beers:

My John Deere has a cupholder, but it will shake up a beer pretty bad.

Just pay some kid to mow it while you supervise with a beer and cigar in hand.

Well, I bought the blade adaptor, a new blade, and some new front wheels. I cleaned the air filter and will do an oil change the next time it runs out of gas. All that said, I think I'll just start paying (making) the kids mow the lawn.

I have a Billy Goat mower. Gotta be 20 years old. I call it my beer holder that I use to cut the grass.
