I watched a gardening video last year where the guy dug a deep hole under where each tomato plant was going and stuck a whole bunker in it.

That's why you don't compost meat, fish or dairy. It WILL attract animals.

 

I would bet more of raccoons digging in the garden more than cats.

Cats would be more likely to use it as a litterbox than a food station.

Has anyone made "compost tea"?

Basically add composted soil to a bucket of water, let sit (steep) for awhile, pour the "tea" onto a container that you can use to pour onto eat plant.

Then add the remaining compost sludge to a garden bed or back into the compost pile.

 

Repeat as needed.

You can make fish hydrolysate with lactobacillus bacteria. Lactobacillus is very easy to culture, just look it up. You grind or chop up the fish finely and mix it in a 5 gal bucket with the bacteria and a little water, you want it a sludgy consistency. Lacto work best in an anaerobic environment so you put a air lock on the lid of the bucket. The bacteria break down the fish into usable nutrients for plants. The process itself is smelly so you'll want to keep the bucket away from the house but afterwards it should only have a slight fishy smell after the bacteria do their work.

Years ago I did some subcontract work for Ducky Noon's down in north Truro.

He had a pit and in it he put pogys that he scraped off the bay side beaches and buried in his pit.

3-5years later the loam covering them would move and oh my GOSH!!!!! THE STINK WOULD CAUSE YOU TO MOVE OUT AND FAST!!!!

i'LL BET THAT LOAM IS THE BEST TODAY!

Instead of messing around  making stinky fish juice, why not just buy this stuff?  Ive been  using for years   and love it. And BTW,  it stinks too, if that's important to you.

Lowes, home depot for sure.  But I've seen it elsewhere.
