Hi guys! I had accidentally dropped my reel, which caused the Spool has little scratch (When running my finger across I can feel the scratches).

I tried to use very fine sand paper to smooth it out. Can anyone share how will they fix this problem?

Thanks for any inputs!20210429_173454.jpg.2af5cd07595d6c73a6545e9505a803d5.jpg

My black VS spools have been sanded out so many times there is no anidization  (if thats a word) left around the entire edge on some of them. Like Tman said use a 300 or even 400 wet sand paper

I'd remove the burrs by any means possible. Then sand it smooth.  Then some clear coat.

As long as it passes the cottonball test I'm happy.

Can't just buy a new spool?

This or just leave it. My van staal has scratches like that all over the spool lip and has caused no issues

I used a really fine 1,000/1,500 wet-sand from 3M, might be slightly overkill but at least I am very careful about how much material I am taking off the rotor.

Put some dang line on that reel......I'd bet you're losing 40% in distance

Simple wet dry sandpaper

I've done the same thing to the same reel. I was lucky enough to have a friend with a 3000sq ft machine shop who owed me a little favor. I still ended up buying a 2nd spool. Removing the dent isn't enough, the surface will have to be polished afterwards. Few have the tools, or the time to do it right.

To each his own, but this is really all that matters to me. I’ve never had any issues with the spool once it’s smoothed out
