l could help you out but the video wont play on my PC even with VLC. is the movement in and out or is there play in the gear mesh? either way the gears need to be shimmed.

Microsoft wants .99 cent from me to play your movie l guess l not watching it unless you put it in a different format.

The movement is I guess in and out or “horizontal” I guess you could consider it. Reel was just serviced too.

There should almost be no in or out movement or back lash, if there is the shims were not put back in or some left out, you don't want to leave it that way.

Well that sucks. Holding the rotor/not holding the rotor doesn’t matter either does it? there’s no play when I hold the rotor, only if I hold it by the body.

The right way to test if there is any gear play with VS reels is not to hold the rotor like you would with other reels because VS reels do not have anti reverse bearing at the pinion there's ARB is on the main gear, here is how to test for back lash hold the crank handle with some backward pressure and see how much back and fourth movement there is with the rotor once more there should be almost none.

Thanks for the tip.. there’s a decent amount of play in it doing that.

I haven’t used the reel much since I got it back/stopped using it once I noticed this. I’ll see what the service center says.  Thanks again @LB

Get it fixed there should be almost zero back lash when testing it the way l said. by holding the handle, it's amazing how l have seen some reels come back from a service center, that is way mine VS reels have never be to one, and l have owned VS reels since 1996.

Good luck, how do you get @LB in a blue block l see it quite often?

When you type a “@“  include anyone’s name directly after it and it’ll tag them/notify them in the post.. I’m not 100% sure if it works on a web browser  and all phones but that’s how it works in an iPhone. Example @natejeep tags me to this post.

Just wondering if this play in the main gear is ok... I have another 250 and a 150 that don’t have this play so I’m a little worried somethings wrong. Turning the handle I don’t feel anything bad just this side to side play... thanks in advance.

That’s unfortunate.. I’m going to call the service center this morning and see what they say. 4 states over which is the worst part. I appreciate the help though thank you.

lf you were in NJ l would tell you bring it to me and l would have it fixed in 15min., are you capable of tacking off the side cover and adding some shims to the main gear? l know some people shy away from doing that because of the possibility of a reel lock up.

Let use know the out come when you call the service center.

I wish I had the nerves to open it myself; it’s a lefty VS so I really hate taking the risk of messing something up and than parts to fix my mess up not be available..
