Transporting rods in truck with short bed/box

So I'm in the market for a new truck, looking at silverados since my buddy sells chevy trucks. 

i have the options of either a Crew cab short box silverado, or a crew cab standard box silverado. The double cabs just arent available for me right now.

 

The crew cab with the standard box is massive and looks like itd be pretty cumbersome, and I like the look of the short box but feel like I'd have a tough time transporting my rods, which even in pieces are up to 7'6".

 

Can anyone offer input on how easy or hard it is to haul their gear around with the short box? The main reason i want a truck is to store my gear more easily. I drive an equinox now and it sucks to have my rods taking up room inside.

Either a ladder rack on the bed or roof rack on the cab with ski racks on either. This keeps the rods up high so they are safe and leaves room in the bed for everything else.

Get a sliding rear window in the cab and run them from the bed thru that window into the cab.  Thats what I do.

I waa considering this but my gear lives in my car as I live in a 2nd floor 1 bedroom apartment. Its a pain to carry it in and out so I'm looking for a permanent solution in the truck

If your trying to keep the rods inside the cab the only thing you can do is put them diagonally from the front passenger seat floor to the back. Not very convenient. I only do it if I need to secure my rods while running into a store or something.

Did this for years. The rain,cold and bugs getting

thru that slider sucked. Suv, racks on top for

whatever i cant fit inside. Id never go back.

Mine are inside the truck with rod out rear window

Port a rod .com.    Plenty of options love mine and easy in and out of truck.

One of the many reasons I don’t like pickup trucks. Never liked how the bed and cab are isolated from each other. It would be nice if pickups were made with a door between the cab and bed. Would make carrying long items much more practical.

More about unattended rods in the truck. I can go get a rod rack and solve the transportation issue easy. But i store a lot of gear in my car. I meed to figure out how to keep it there with the crew cab and short bed.

Crack a window, so part the rod sticks out. Use to always have to do that with a car...

 

I’ve got a portarod these days tho, probably best thing I ever did for the safety of my rods instead of banging around in my truck bed,

or sticking out a window.

 

To keep my rods safe if running Into say the wawa or something quick, I have master lock python cables locking the holder to the bed. Also the rods are wrapped around with another python locking cable, and through the reels foot if possible. That’s not going to stop a pro thief but will stop the usual petty thief seeing rods in the back of a truck.

I would never leave a rod outside unattended. In the cab is the only option for me. If there is a cap over the bed I’d go out the back window.

My rods go in the cab as long as they're no longer than 7.5' or 2 piece.  They stay in there all season.  Only rid I can't fot the cab is my 1 piece 8'

Bed cap with fiberglass doors. use a gasket around sliders from cap to bed and run rods into cab. Make a suspended holder to support the but ends near the rear door of the cap and a foam padded pc of PVC for the front in the slider. Or use J hooks in the front. Bed slide and you are good to go.
