I recall having a dinner in Miami that was very similar. Tons of traffic from tourists and boats but didn’t deter the giants from taking up residency.

Most all water front restaurants in the Keys have same scenario, They wait for tidbits, do not move when when you wave your arms, but get them on a flat and they spook from 30-40', There is one mid key bridge when gulf shrimp are moving on outgoing tide at nite there are thousands of Mr Poon! Bring your long handle net, hanging lantern, dip a bucket of 5' shrimp and cast a few on spinning gear. 1 minute or less to fish on.

Stayed at many Key Motels from 2 weeks to a Month  on almost every Island. Fished them all. As far as Night Fishing God help you if there is no Breeze ( wind ) Blowing the Nats - Mosquitos - Kissing Bugs in season will eat you alive, We would hang tunnel traps to Trap shrimp at night retrieve next day

During my Navy tour 58 -62 on the USS AGS 15 Tanner we spent 2 months anchored off the Navy base at key West.for some reason the bugs were absent. Guess the Breeze hindered them. But will never forget a Hail Storm with 70mp winds That we went to General Quarters to secure Bow & Stern Anchors and the many Boats we had in The Water She was Old & Slow surly not Pretty but Home for many/ Fished 3/4 s of the world on her.

Had to laugh watching these fisherman Eyeing the Tarpon paying most likely big bucks to go off to fish for them. When they are right there.

With heavy gear the chances are reasonable if you hook one, but cleaning station tarpon tend to be spooky.

Yeah, but what are chances of landing a tarpon hooked in between all those pilings?

Does it matter? They're pets. Anyone thinking it would be fun to harass hand fed fish is probably a psychopath.

What’s the difference?  The pets have more feelings......ah.

Feelings? They're domesticated. You can shoot bears at the landfill, but don't call it hunting.

I don’t call it hunting or fishing when a guide takes you to your target and all you do is cast to it or shoot it but I’d stop short of calling people who choose to do so psychopaths. Get some perspective.

You'd stop short, I sure as hell won't.

Nothing like having big tarpon gulping for air at your feet.
