Barry Reynolds wrote Pike on the Fly, fishes for them year-round, and likes 25lb Mason hard nylon, or Rio Hard Mono.

I've used 40lb Maxima Green and never lost a pike on it, though it's true I haven't caught as many pike as I would like..

flies.  I also use(d) a non-slip mono loop knot which I awelays thought gave me more bite protection.

I find it pretty unbelievable that so many would recommend mono or fluoro under 50 or 60lb as a primary bite tippet for pike. Do they have less teeth on your side of the pond? Hah!. Wire should always be the primary choice and other options more well, optional and used only when the situation requires them.
