I am wondering if anyone has caught the Atlantic herring (saltwater) yet, as the weather is warming up now? Thanks  a lot.

Herring can be a challenge with a fly rod and small files, especially the Sea Herring, Not sure on the river herring and blue backs . It may be a little early for any numbers yet. Peace and Prayers

I (incidentally) catch a fair number of river herring while fishing for shad (using a fly rod and the fly fisherman's version of the shad dart) ...Given the legalities involved with that species, I'm usually skittish and either try to shake them off before I land them, or if they won't come off, they get the quickest release I know now (lol)

Me too, mainly on willow leaf spoons. Unfortunately its exactly the same gear for shad, so its unavoidable.
