A neighbor gave me some scrap which turns nicely (pic), is very light/buouyant, and smells a bit like pine but is darker than pine.  It's in the evergreen family, and the grain seems too tight for fir, but I could be wrong.

Thanks for any feedback.

Fir has a tighter grain than white pine, based on the color and grain I'd venture its fir. Although another possibility could be cypress.

Just ignore him.

BTW, actually wearing a live free or die T-shirt today I got in Portsmouth maybe 7 years ago. Its a bit ragged but ya know, t-shirts are best and most comfy when the old lady tries to toss them out!

It’s soft and grain can be alil wonky . But if ya can find tighter grain stuff it’s great . Pretty much all I use for anything top water or surface swimmer . Cheap and easily found too . Enjoy
