Carp Fishing? who does or did?

351 posts in this topic

I took my 11 year old granddaughter and my son carp fishing last Friday. First time that I have not caught a carp. River was real low and the sun was hot. Fished 5:30 to 7:45. We had kids swimming on both sides of us that did not help. Of all times to get skunked. I really want her to fight one of these strong fighting fish.

I have only caught river carp but I figured they would be stronger fighters.

Maybe they are more muscular because they’ve been fighting current their whole lives? Whatever it is, I’m not complaining about a stronger fighting fish haha.

Haha yes, No doubt! Lol…  I’m definitely no expert on proper technique, but definitely prefer looong handled pliers, haha!

Seems I get way fewer turtles on fake corn also… real natural baits = more turtles for me.

In addition to needle nose pliers, I carry a pair of the bigger sized locking surgical forceps. They seems to work out well, because you can lock onto the hook, and not lose your grip on it if the turtle comes around on you, and you have to temporarily abandon the mission.

Some monster carp have been spotted at the Varrick Dam in Oswego Ny.

That must be a great area… Been seeing pics of some awesome fish coming out of upstate NY recently… some giants and some awesome looking mirrors also.

Many easily 30 lbs. make a salmon look small. All the canal and barge canals are  great habit for them
