Recently tied some for the first time. I have had problems with the leader twisting badly.

Any one know what could be causing that?

It's spinning on the cast.Try reducing the "flap".

Okay, thanks. I will give that a try.

As you see there's an interest to help you with your "situation".Can you post a picture of your gurgler? That will tell alot.

A small barrel swivel built into my leaders stopped all my leader twist problems with my gurglers and crease flies many years ago. I use Spro Barrel Swivels.

What size swivel are you using? 8’s (50lb)?

Very nice. And If I may: how thick is the foam? And is it "anchored" in any way in the rear (it seems to curve down over the material)?

Thanks. This is roughly 1/4 of an inch thick block of foam. I taper and tie it to the back of the hook then fold it to the front. I tie it firmly but not too tight to avoid cutting the foam. Use ultra-glue to help anchoring it.

This specific fly caught many Stripers before I took the picture and it did not even rotate given the good base built and glued before working my way to the front of the fly.
