You get a 20 slot fly box for the year, how do you stock it?

 

Scenario A) Any pattern

 

Scenario B) 5 patterns only 

 

Scenario C) 3 colors only

If I only had one pattern - all white hollow fleye (in different sizes)

 

5 Patterns - Clouser, Hollow Fleye, Gurgler, Crab, Lefty Deciever

 

3 Colors - white, chart, black

Find two a few up flies and a few down flies that you like/ have confidence in. Tie or buy them then in a few different sink rates. Then you can add or take away whatever has worked for you.

If the fish are being stingy I will dead drift them In heavy current and have found that to be productive. I have also never really gotten in to fishing all black hollows, always have a couple tied up though haha.

20 flies;

Craft fur minnows (5 each, size 1/0) ;

-       Olive over white

-       Blue over chartreuse

-       Black over olive

Lefty’s Deceiver (5, size 2/0)

-       Olive over white x 2

-       Black x 3

Do you use a floating line?  Mend it like a wet fly swing?

 

My friends make fun of me because it takes very little for me to tie on a black fly.  Anything less than bright sky and I'm fishing black.  Water a little stained?  I'm fishing black.  Getting down deep in the channel?  Black.
