Bring the water wings, ice cover is meager and spotty...

Is it really that bad? I’m usually ok with 3”-4”, but 3” over 85’ of water could freak me out a little

Other sites might have more info on this.. .  In my area on the coast the small ponds are frozen pretty good but they are calling for heavy rain on Saturday I believe.  Things may be different inland..  I'm going to wait another weekend to try as it's supposed to get colder and I'm hoping to bring my 2 young kids.

This is more inland, but does anyone ice fish? I’m coming up to visit my sister and fish for Lakers and burbot in a few weeks, how is the ice thickness about now?

They are “togue” and “cusk”. Don’t want to be identified as a flat lander.

What part of Maine are you heading for?

It was actually next weekend, the 22nd I was planning on heading up. I was hoping to fish Thompson Lake in Oxford County but I’m not sure that’s gonna be realistic with 50 degrees and rain coming this weekend

Also, google “ice safety picks”.

$10

They stay around your neck on a lanyard.

I’m a pretty hardcore ice guy, I’ve just never fished Maine. I have flotation bibs, ice picks, all the goodies.

Good to hear. The beauty of Maine is you can fish warm water ponds where you use up 5 dozen shiners on pickerel and bass, or go a few miles to another pond with less flags but a chance at a good salmon or trout.

Check the regulations. Some ponds don’t allow for ice fishing.

Enjoy. It’s a beautiful state.
