Anyone see on Alan's main page something about a new Certate?

"Daiwa is releasing a new family called "Certate SW". Going on sale late March with some models coming in April. So far models are 8000-H and 8000-P, 10000-H and 10000-P, 14000-XH, and 18000-H"

I wonder if its going to be a BG MQ style deal with some rubber seals vs magseal? Not much info just curious as the sizes are quite large like the Saltigas.

Or maybe a new replacement for the "Catalina/Isla" series

im super interested to hear more about these as well. and it seems like they have the radiation drag knob of the newer saltigas. if they're similar to the smaller certates and they have the zaion rotor with the rubber sealing, they would be very interesting addition to Daiwas lineup

Highly likely to be a Catalina replacement. Cant bundle Isla name together with it because 2016+ was never released here. That ended here as a flop prior 2014.

Unifying the lineups for sizing instead of more names makes sense.

Id probably pass on this reel as the price is already so close to the 20 Saltiga price. I really wouldn't care to save $150~.

based on the current yen rate and the flyer posted on Alan Hawks site, savings look to be more like 300$ cheaper than a saltiga

Thats just a deposit pre-order price. Its about 70000 with local taxes. But with limited supplies.  Itll sell closer to retail.

Once you factor in shipping. Fees. Import customs taxes.   It wont be $300 saved.

Thats why I said saving 150.

Will Daiwa service it?

They won't service the other JDM products they brought over here.

If it says hyper anywhere on the box....I won't even consiser it.

thats why i stick with using my old blasts and saltiga Zs

grease it, a drop of oil here and there.  call it a day.

they already market the BGMQ here so i doubt that theyll bring it here anyways.

That's you.

If the industry was entirely made up of "yous" :) there would be no tackle industry.

but you have to admit. some older stuff is built to last.

want to review my beaten to death z4500? 16 years of use.

still runs almost like new.

Are the saltiga zs really that good? I’ve heard they’re bulletproof and easy to service but are they smooth and is the drag good in your experience?

ive yet to see one in person

smooth is subjective.  but ive used all the new versions reels and the old.

i have and Z the 10 15 and the 2020 model.

its smooth enough. when comparing all 4 side by side. the smooth feeling isnt that far apart.

one thing for sure. all the saltigas are stiff to start on wind from the sealing.

it eventually breaks in and starts up easier.

All of daiwa new high end reel are missing 6k size like the certate lt or exist only go up to 5k.

Ballistic 6k is spectacular...just treat it like it has no seals at all.

If shimano made a ci4 saragosa 6k...now that would be something.
