Nice 22” summer steelhead/half pounder this afternoon on a size 12 bird’s nest I tied last night. I whiffed on a second fish a little later on when the line slipped out of my hand on the set. Getting one or two shots on fish each outing the past couple of weeks, lots of work, but the payoff is well worth it. 27785E78-7DC3-405F-96FD-A3AD8D86FDCB.jpeg.7a821c552bb5ec535b78933f10b178d4.jpeg

Fished the ocean front on Plum Island (MA) yesterday morning.  It has been awhile since I fished surf like that.  Tough conditions.  Hooked three big fish and lost all three.  Settled for one schoolie landed in the river. LONG walk in waders,  The smudge is the moisture wicked onto my phone during the sweat march.  I remembered an important thing- do not lift up either of your feet when the wave has broken around you and is retreating.  As John Irving called it, "The UnderToad".

With the warm temps yesterday I had a nice ant flight . Pretty much the same ones I had a few weeks back. I did end up with some real small non winged  red ants again . These as were hitchhiking on the big ones . ( cuz I netted these in the air ) . What I hadn't realized was the little buggers were killing the bigger ones . PA040023.JPG.1544ff2743e1fe8bcfe5a53805f95235.JPGPA040024.JPG.480587218ae5b144cabffff94b09469d.JPGPA040025.JPG.5e9d80c7725d9bce32c937f18689e5f3.JPGPA040010.JPG.1beec065f561c9abadf3aee1fe16ffa3.JPGPA040011.JPG.402d06107b3eed779c2482733ba2fa32.JPGPA040013.JPG.ed5a158e1d53b335a9c35c0b7df3fbd1.JPGPA040022.JPG.e2aeae49d25249a9768d9a3ff54bba71.JPG

Best event of the season, they bring up every fish in the stream.

Albies were around over the weekend but sporadic and not consistent. I only had a few shots but not takers. They disappeared with the wind but seemed to have returned along with some bonito at a somewhat unexpected place. I’m optimistic for tomorrow at sunrise.
