Boat Rod for Fluke

I have a friend who is interested in building a boating rod for fluke and asked for my help.  The information he’s shared with me so far is he would like a 7-footer, conventional, for 1-3 oz fluke jigs.

I don’t have any experience with this type of fishing and I’m unfamiliar with blanks that might meet this need — any recommendations would be great.

Thank you.

If he's just pitching jigs out 10 yards or so and soaking them in a drifting situation my rod choice would be different than if I physically casting them all day, fishing  deeper water, etc. The latter would be a much stouter stick.

Check out the Bushido line from Amtak (American Tackle)  MB73 10/20.  Blanks are incredibly light, recover quickly - aka great for bucktailing fluke and powerful.

The rod will he used almost specifically for drifting Nantucket Shoals from a 100’ charter   Boat.  The blank can’t be longer than 7’.  He plans on using 30 lb line.

The Rodgeeks XC 734 is what I sell a lot of for that specific fishery, on the party boats. IF he was fishing charters I would go with the 733.  I am putting an order in for more blanks very soon let me know if you are interested in ordering one from me. IF you have questions about the blank let me know, I'm teh one who designed them

Just so you know, he will never be using 1-3oz for fishing up there, not even close to that. YOu can cut any blank.

The current on the shoal can require anywhere from 6-12 ounces or more depending on the wind and the phase of the moon.  Most fish with rods that you would fish for blackfish with such as the RodGeeks 734.
