Hit the "spot" today and was welcomed by clams & oysters.  Besides those tasty bivalves there was 1 hen clam that went back, and a tube and worm rig for next year!!

What is the period a license is valid for? Calendar year? Year from purchase?

Which license?  My town clamming and all Maine fishing/hunting licenses are calendar year.

Stunning! Think I've asked before,  but how far from oob are you? And how do you know when its safe? Looking it up is like reading Chinese.

Way North of OOB, John's Bay by the Pemaquid Peninsula.  Township & DMR websites tell me when safe & unrestricted.
