surfcityNJ
Finally adding to the boat and not taking material out of it. Transom is cut. Will glue up the two pieces out of the boat and then adhered to the outer skin and pulled tight and secure with 25 or so through bolts to later be patched. 30 gallons of epoxy arrive tomorrow and all the cloth tape I need to tab in the transom and stringers. Hoping in another week or so she'll be back on the trailer and splashed briefly to see where I want the weight of the fuel tank to be. aae0130
surfcityNJ
Got the new core set into the outer skin with thickened epoxy. Fillets laid also using thickened epoxy and then two layers of 17oz tabbing added today. 6" and then 12" tape over top. Waiting on full width 17oz cloth in the mail. Will round the top edges and prep the top of the outer skin. Two layers of 17 oz for the inner skin and then the transom is set aside from getting old holes filled/patched and drilling new holes. I know this must be a lot of work......but it does look like fun. “Shall not be infringed” was the “talk to the hand” of that period. surfcityNJ
Haven't had a ton of time for updates lately. Still moving along at a decent pace and have a good portion of the structural pieces completely filleted and glassed. Two main lengthwise stringers with side supports tying into the side of the boat all done. There will be two more sets of those once the fuel tank position is sorted. Two full bulkheads front and back of fuel tank, and then center stringer portions from bulkhead to bow and most of the way to transom. All deck pieces are cut and glassed on the bottom already. She'll be hitting the drink for the first time in quite a bit today. Rough simulation of engine weight and fuel tank weight to get the forward/aft location of the tank sorted for proper balance. riggler and aae0130

surfcityNJ
She floats. Man the water line without soggy wood is amazing. Obviously a bit of additional weight with everything finished but it sits level and well above the scuppers. Floor is 1.5” higher as well. Getting the last structural pieces filleted and tabbed in. Making sure when I fillet that I don’t have to come back and sand down much at all. Smooth and clean so glass lays down clean with no bubbles. surfcityNJ
Just epoxy thickened with cabosil. Made a radiused squeegee that has pulled them easy and clean.
Underdogg
Nice job so far. Great hull for inshore. With the composite/epoxy combo that should last you lifetime. All the hardwork will pay off knowing it was done right. Did you raise the deck so it self bails? How do you transition the glass over the 90* at the top of the stringers (router)? Will you be cutting limber holes into the bulkheads/stringers to drain to the bilge? Will be following, keep up the progress.
surfcityNJ
Deck height is up about 1.5" from original. It was just shy of self bailing previously so now it should without question even with a person or two in the stern. I don't plan to go over the stringers with cloth. Being composite they don't need to be encapsulated. I did use a router with a round over bit on the transom top edge to make that transition managable with 17oz cloth. I'll be adding weep holes once all is finished with the structural pieces.
