Striper Fishing in the Hampton Roads area of VA

I’m taking a trip down the the Hampton Roads area to fish with my brother. He normally targets flounder, trout, drum, and of course all the associated bait fish. He is very familiar with the Willoughby Spit pier  in Norfolk and Lynnhaven Inlet, but again, not for stripers.

We are looking to do mostly surf casting (I don’t think that he has a boat trip lined up at all) or fishing from jetties. We are thinking about fishing in both areas but also around the mouth of the James and York Rivers. I understand that that is a phenomenal amount of ground to cover. If anyone could make some suggestions on narrowing our search a little, it would be greatly appreciated.

I didn’t see any stripers caught in VA. There were a few small ones in northern MD and a week later they seemed to get bigger.

The fishing was relatively poor for any species while I was there. A few decent size trout and some small flounder. But that was about gist of it.
