Strangest thing.

The wife misplaced her usual key so she used the spare, the car starts and then shuts down and "SAFE" shows on the display.

Turns out it's an anti theft thing that locks it out and sometimes you can reset.

And sometimes you can't.

Now I need a new display and the part is $900.

Yeah, I get the electronic perks and all, but this is bull****.

F these German cars.

Yikes. Can’t you get a new “chip” key? Probably if you have the vin VW can replace it?

Why have a spare key then

It's a shame, because VW's our aesthetically pleasing cars -- I especially like the wagons.

But they our such mechanical messes, and the parts our such a ripoff, that I don't think I'd pay ten cents for one.
