Fall River run?

Is there a fall run in the rivers? Or is it only in the spring.

Fall is not something I fish alot. I'm usually short on time off and would rather be squirrel hunting.

But this year I have quite a bit of time

As the weather cools down the fish eventually make their back into the rivers. You just have to decide when to switch from fishing outside to inside the rivers.

Some hold over and go into the rivers, but the majority head south at various times starting in Oct.  Fishing can be great out on Montauk when the bait is plentiful, but I'll be migrating myself and snook fishing from Oct on through winter and spring.

I was on the Housy yesterday with my wife and kids on a impromptu trip.

Saw lots of splashing around.  Some quite sizeable. But it was out of my range.

Only had our pushbutton fishing gear with us that I keep in the car.

Bluefin tuna making their annual run to the Derby dam most likely.

I usually start fishing the rivers by now but the beaches are holding tons of fish still. Mostly slot sized fish and upper schoolies but there's been over-slot fish in the mix. Haven't had the itch to fight the headlamp brigade in the local river spots just yet.

Got a 42" bass just the other day in the pouring rain

11.

Gonna bring my minnow trap and see what I can get.

I've got some frozen clam necks still. Figure it out as we go.

She's not too fussy. Just happy to be out there.
