Fish cut outs

Had some scraps of pine.  I found some striper pictures on the net printed them.  I glued them to the board and then cut 5hem out with a scroll saw.  My original plan was to stain the back of the board and hang them outside.  But they look good with the fish picture.  I know it’s a long shot but is there a way to protect the the fish picture on the board so I can hang them outside?   Polyurethane envirotex?  Crazy question but I had to ask thanks Charlie

Thanks have admired your plugs for a long time.  Not sure if I don’t like the stained version might have one side.  I like the dark blue stain will make the bass cut out look like a bass like it’s ghosting through the cloudy turbulent surf.  I’ve been snorkeling and seen bass appear like ghosts and disappear like magic.

thats gorgeous Tarpon.  When this virus thing is better I want to take the wife back down to sanibel in florida.  It seems like that will take forever.

Very nice dannyplug. I do similar multi specie wood cutouts. Certainly not as involved as yours.

All of the cutouts shown here look great.

But this one has me wondering. It's a well done job and the finish I really like. But I wonder did you use a handheld saw or a table scroll ?

I ask because I would have drilled several holes inside the pattern and then threaded my scroll blade thru in whatever direction I need, to make the cuts.

See here one of many little things that the late TonyG(omez) made using this method. Rip Tony.

Ben, I made a template out of 1/4" ply. I cut the template out with a sabersaw and cleaned it up with a drum sander. Then I used a router with a 1/4" bit and a collar to run around the template
