mybeach
Most belt type styles I see look like they ride way too high on the body. That makes them look super top heavy to me as well. would like to find one that rides lower on the belt. any ideas where to search?
DMacLeod
Depends on what you want it for. If protection you would want it higher for concealment. If lower on hip it will stick out further from your body and be noticeable.
big popper
with the proper gun belt the high ride is the way to go. if ti feels top heavy it's more likely to be the belt
SallyGrowler
Is this for OWB or IWB? For OWB i like the Galco or Desantis holsters. If you want kydex I am happy with Outlaw Holsters. I don't carry my revolvers IWB. Don't forget pouches for speedloaders.
mybeach
OWB. This is strictly for ease of storage/transportation at the range and in the wild. There is no CC or OC here. I don't find it to be practical to use the S+W box for transport. And yes, I need a double speedloader pouch. I'm thinking a western style looks much more practical for me. Or, an older Patrolman style that hangs on the belt closer to the grip.

Use them both for the heavier CCW options (Smith L-Frame). As others have mentioned...a lot of the wear and comfort is dependent on your Belt. Plenty of reasonably priced options for those out there... The wheels on my reels go round and round...round and round...round and round... For a western holster there are some great deals just south of the border in Mexico. Nogales or TJ.
SallyGrowler
For my GP100 3" i use a galco high ride that is canted. 4 oclock position. The problem with thumbreak holsters is re-holster after draw. Bianchi used to make excellent leather holsters. DMacLeod
Wayland
Both Galco and Triple K make a similar sportsman's belt holster that ride low, but aren't cowboy style holsters. Each has a strap to secure the gun, and can be worn strong-side or as cross-drawn. I ordered a Triple K to carry a Ruger Blackhawk in the woods -- that's not a gun your gonna even want to try to conceal.
