Every time I see one, there goes a; "Rat with Racing Stripes".

A couple of seasons ago they were not willing to share my strawberries so I got a cheap garden net from Wallyworld and covered my bed, the netting ended up being the perfect "snare" size and killed about a dozen chipmunks. I had to get out and clean up the carnage before my better half saw it or else... Has taken years to get the population back to a problem level. Happy Hunting!

I was thinking of making a grey squirrel fur jacket.
The collar could be red squirrel and the cuffs could be chipmunk.

i think it would be a nice looking jacket.

i’ve been using the half filled 5 gallon bucket (with floating sunflower seed covering the water) for years...I think it’s the best for chipmunks. Last year I stopped using it after 60.  This year I’m up to 42.
for me , I change the water and reseed every 3 or 4 days ... the seed sinks and with the hot weather it can stink... but dam it works good.

its not so good for the red & grey squirrels ...but it’s the best method for chipmunks.

sometimes I put a couple of logs on top of the bucket to keep birds from getting trapped... it’s pretty rare when a bird goes in but it has happened.

Fill a 5 gallon bucket a little less theN half way Up With water and a plank Leading up to the top. Put sunflower seeds on plank and in water and you’ll wipe out the whole neighborhood In no time.

This is what I do.  If you use a 30gallon trash can it will also drown tons of grey squirrels.  Two varmints with one trap.  Leaving the bodies in the same area will bring foxes and coyotes into the area.  At my prior home I wiped out over 100 in three weeks.  I was amazed how many their were.

We usually have a water ban in our town every year, so my dad decided in the spring/early summer to put a 55 gallon drum under each gutter downspout.

We'd collect a ton of water and also end up with about 10 chipmunks that drowned in there just about every night.

Live trap a few of the Canal mink and turn them loose around the garden.  The chipmunks will go the way of the Norway Rats along the Canal.  I watched a mink ambush a chipmunk from the deck of my house recently, the kill took about 1 second,  Next evening while walking the dog another mink ran in front of me with a chipmunk in his mouth

I have a juvenile hawk, just saw it.

Bob you should get one no chipmunks here this year

I use an empty havaheart trap placed in the run way with no bait and only one end open . The chipmunks are almost non existing and the rat population as well. The squirrels are popped with pellets and so they also are very limited. The rifle with its high powered scope works well on chipmunks in keeping them down

Many folks are either unaware of that or are purposely violating the law.

I've heard countless stories from friends of mine who use haveaheart to relocate wildlife.

Apparently,  their compassion for the animal trumps breaking the laws of the Commonwealth.     :dismay:

.

That and the lack of sufficient game wardens to patrol their neck of the woods.

Unless someone drops a dime on them they may never be caught. Not saying their being brazen and flaunting the law, but that they haven't been caught and had the rules/penalties "explained" to them.

Last 2 years have been a bumper crop of rodents, walking through the woods the chattering of chipmunks is almost constant.  I have to wonder if it's a lack of predators or what.  Anyways, I expect rigged chipmunks to be the new hotness this year, better get your needles out.

We're in need (unfortunately) of a deep freeze during the winter that will kill off many of the backyard invaders.

Chipmunks, squirrels, rabbits and groundhogs will have a population explosion if they are left unchecked for more than a year or two. Mild winters mean early/frequent broods, which means more and more vermin.

Damn rodents! After squirrels set up house in the attic of the apt bldg and chewed though a pex water line, it was war. Rat traps didn't work, found one snapped, then they chewed it apart for the peanut butter! I livetrapped one and drove it across the Hackensack. That MF would need Googlemaps to find its way back! I was in the hallway and saw one run behind a tenant's suitcase there. I slammed the case into the wall, and that bastard screamed! It ran to the other end of the hall where there was no cover, and I grabbed a broom and chased it out the front door. VICTORY!!!

Now they're eating my zucchinis. For years they left them alone. It might be time for the rusty old pump Daisy with pellets from the basement sniper window. City neighbors would get hysterical if they saw me.
