Plymouth/ Manomet Beach (advice for a rookie)

Hello,

I am looking to squeeze in some fishing on Manomet beach in August. The catch is that I have no surf fishing experience (however experienced angler). I am hoping to gain some perspective of what species one would expect to encounter and in turn what would be my best option to target.   I will have some time at dusk and dawn to get out.

What species woudl you expect in august (ex.bluefish/flounder)

Technique (bait or plug)

Expecations - do you think it would be a tall order to get into some fish?

Local tackle/bait shop - any recomendations?

Any advice on what I should/should not do?

Appreciate the insight! Thanks

Lots of mackerel around, a small jig will catch them off the beach. You can use them after dark to chunk for the bass that move in.

Strictly speaking of game fish, striped bass will be (by far) your most likely fish to encounter. Blues move in and out, but aren't really reliable from shore (at least of north of the cape...south side of cape and down into RI is a different story)...There could be fluke around.

Soak some bait (Mackerel) and bring a Wrist Rocket under the stars.

Use the rocket to shoot some chunk bait out near your hook bait.
