SANDWICH — A carcass discovered on the jetty at Scusset Beach State Reservation Saturday morning turned out to be that of a deer, according to Massachusetts State Police.

It was found shortly before 11 a.m. and recovery was underway as of Saturday afternoon, according to David Procopio, spokesman for the Massachusetts State Police.

A forensic pathologist determined it was the remains of a deer, Procopio said.

State Police Troopers from the Bourne Barracks, along with the State Police Marine Unit, Crime Scene Services Section, and Massachusetts State Police detectives assigned to the District Attorney’s office, the Coast Guard and the Environmental Police responded to the scene after reports of a body were received, Procopio wrote by email.

Occasionally people are mistaken for deer, this is the first time in human history a deer was mistaken for a human!
