bassturds
Anyone successfully target trigger fish? Especially from shore? I’d love to catch one, new species for me.
nicknotsebastian
where can you go to get them is the really only tough part. where are you out of ? tons of them s of long island in the summer.
boulderdash
I have caught a few locally tight to big rocks while looking for tog with the kayak. I think from shore maybe RI would be your best bet.
foxfai
Very rare here. Never caught one. Best time will probably be mid-August down south. As other mention, RI might be your best bet.
z-man
What’s a good bait to use for them?
nicknotsebastian
the “usual”... clam, squid. if from shore try around rocks, bridges, structure... use smaller hooks / size 6 ish - but strong. small pieces of bait too... they have small mouths. i use a typical dropper rig w/ a 1 oz bank sinker on the bottom and the hook about a foot up on a dropper loop if targeting triggers. great summer bar b q fish. Sandbar1
We've caught a few around Woods Hole in late July and august. Bycatch while targeting scup. Usually they come up on a piece of squid. I've also seen a few while snorkeling near shore. Always around rocks and boulders. I’m in marshfield, highly doubt we would get them north of the cape, but will definitely travel around to find some

SkunkLuvver
+1on Rhody. Also used to catch them in the Westport area when I was a kid. Supposedly great table fare but I’ve never actually eaten one. bassturds
