Hello! I’m looking to learn more about surf fishing. I have some experience with surf fishing where I would tag along with a friend of mine when he sets out to fish at the beach out on Long Island, NY. Although I have a pretty good sense on casting out and reeling in, I know that there is much more to fishing than just casting and reeling. I am seeking for more knowledge when it comes to rods, reels, lines, lures and etc. Any advice, tips, techniques and guidance for a beginner wanting to become good at surf fishing is appreciated.

Welcome :) Sounds like you have a lot of reading to do before you have a specific question...it would be very difficult for anyone to tell you everything they know about fishing, rods, reels, advice, techniques and guidance in one post   My advice is get some gear and go fishing...you don't need anything fancy to start, see the thread locked to the top of this forum - it gives beginners good advice on gear. Once you get that gear, go fishing as often as you can...and, very soon, you will have some more specific questions - those are the questions folks here can answer with one post :th:

Show someone how to catch striped bass and they'll be ready to fish anywhere.
Show someone where to go striped bass fishing and you'll have a desperate report chaser with loose lips.

Go to a tackle shop near where you fish. Give them your budget and experience and then after you spent a little money with them. Ask where you should start. Chances are they put you in the right direction. Then the questions will come.

Support your local tackle is the best for starting out. They know when, where, parking and all in between.

The search button is your best friend. I sold my boat a few years ago and got back into surf fishing. Having not fished from the beach since the late eighties. Everything I thought I knew was wrong. I found all I needed, info, gear etc right here. Just search and read old posts and you will be good to go in no time. The knowledge here is unbelievable.  Good luck.

A great easy and free way to improve is keep a logbook, Mark the dates/tides/weather/moon and other observations that will help you in catching more fish as you progress

GOD made my Mold different from the rest, Then he broke that mold so I know I'm Blessed.
