Transducer Scratched Up

4 posts in this topic

I have my transducer installed on my hull.  It has been scratched up a little over the years.

Will that start to affect the transducer's performance?

Curiously, i looked that up once...... came across a conversation in the "humminbird side imaging  forum" that pretty much had the answer....

Google "deep scratches on transducer" it'll probably be the first hit that comes up

I did the above google, my findings:

1. As one might expect, the plastic transducer housing is more or less invisible to sonar, comparable to the grille on a speaker enclosure performance wise.

2. A particularly nasty gouge could harbor a bubble or some sort of debris, which would interfere with the signal.

3. A bubble will probably wash off underway.

4. If the gouge is causing a headache consistently, you can fill it in with a homogeneous layer of epoxy and eliminate the issue **IF** you can do it without trapping air in the repair.
